MIKE ARBANAS

GHS Class of 1980


Mike participated in football, track, and basketball during his time at Grandview Senior High School. In football, Mike was named a two-time 1st team all-conference linebacker, 2nd team all-state in 1978 and 1st team in 1979 after averaging just under 20 tackles per game. He was named a parade all-american and named to the "super 11" high school prospects by Big Eight Magazine.


In track, Mike won the outdoor state championship in the discus and placed third in the shot put and also won the indoor shot put his senior year. Mike was also named the KC Missouri High School Athlete of the Year by the Sports Commission his senior year.


Mike continued his football career at the University of Kansas and was a four year letterman and was named captain his senior year. He finished his career with 238 tackles, placing him in the top ten all time. Mike is currently the owner of Fred Arbanas, INC. Mike is married to his wife Jenny and they have three sons, Jake, Frank, and Luke. Mike's favorite memory at GHS was playing against Hickman Mills his junior year with an estimated 10,000 spectators in attendance against his future college roommate. Both Hickman Mills and Grandview had six players sign division 1 football scholarships.
