JAMES MINARD

GHS Class of 1985


James participated in football, basketball, and baseball during his time at Grandview Senior High School. In football, Jim earned three varsity letters and was named first team all-conference as aboth a receiver and safety his senior year. He earned all-metro honors as well as being named a first team all-district receiver. He was chosen to participate in the Big Brother's Big Sister's All Star Football Game. He also received the Channel 4 Player of the Week honors, was given the US Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete award along with being the Optimist Outstanding Athlete award. In Baseball, Jim was named the all-conference shortstop both his junior and senior years. He was also named honorable mention KC all-metro as a shortstop. In basketball, Jim earned three varsity letters and was a three year starter for the Bulldogs.


Jim contiued his athletic career by playing baseball for two years at Indiana State University where they participated in the 1986 College World Series. Jim then transferred to William Jewell College where he played both football and baseball.


Jim is married to his wife Laurie and they have three daughters Madison, Riley, and Emily. Jim worked for 12 years as a controller for Smith-Dale, a wholesale giftware company. He presently works as a subcontractor and owner of a remodeling business. His favorite athletic memory at GHS was beating Raytown South in the playoffs 7-6 on a fake field goal and going on to play Rockhurst at Arrowhead Stadium.
